R.J. MacReady is a fictional helicopter pilot and a central character featured in The Thing film series by Universal Pictures, as well as spin-off media. He was played by actor Kurt Russell and appeared in the 1982 feature film The Thing by director John Carpenter.

- The character of R.J. MacReady was created by director John Carpenter and screenplay writer Bill Lancaster based on concepts originally developed by John W. Campbell.
- The ending of The Thing left MacReady's final fate uncertain, though he went on to have more encounters with the alien "thing" in comic book stories published by Dark Horse Comics.
- The character of R.J. MacReady was lampooned in issue #264 of MAD Magazine. This is actually the character's first comic book appearance.
