It was directed by Val Guest and written by Guest and Richard H. Landau. The film was produced by Hammer Film Productions . It was released theatrically in the United Kingdom on September 28th , 1955 . It premiered in the United States in June , 1956 . The movie stars Brian Donlevy as Professor Bernard Quatermass, Jack Warner as Inspector Lomax, Margia Dean as Mrs. Judith Carroon, Thora Hird as Rosemary "Rosie" Elizabeth Wrigley and David King-Wood as Doctor Gordon Briscoe.
