Québec is a province in east-central Canada. It is the only Canadian province with a predominantly French-speaking identity and the only one whose sole official language is French at the provincial level. Quebec is Canada's largest province by area and its second-largest administrative division; only the territory of Nunavut is larger. It is bordered to the west by the province of Ontario, James Bay and Hudson Bay, to the north by Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay, to the east by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick. It is bordered on the south by the U.S. states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. It also shares maritime borders with Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.
Points of Interest[]
- Montreal
- Montreal is the second-largest city in Canada and the largest city in the province of Quebec. Originally called Ville-Marie, or "City of Mary", the city takes its present name from Mont-Royal, the triple-peaked hill located in the heart of the city, whose name was also initially given to the island on which the city is located, or Mont Réal as it was spelled in Middle French.
- Ungava Bay
- Ungava Bayis a large bay in northeastern Canada separating Nunavik, far northern Québec, from Baffin Island. The bay is roughly oval-shaped, about 260 kilometers at its widest point and about 320 kilometers in length; it has an area of approximately 19,000 square miles. It is generally fairly shallow, under 490 feet, though at its border with the Atlantic Ocean depths of almost 980 feet are reached.
