Polo is a fictional demon who took the form of a puppet. He is a one-time antagonist featured on the WB Network television series Angel, which is part of the greater "Buffyverse" continuity. He appeared in the fourteenth episode from season five, "Smile Time". Polo also appeared in the three-issue Angel: Smile Time comic book limited series, published by IDW Publishing.
Overview[]
Polo is a demon who thrives off of the life energy of children. Along with three other demons, Polo was summoned to the Earthly plane by Gregor Framkin, who entered into a bargain with the demons to help save his failing children's television series, Smile Time. The demons established a "Nest Egg" headquarters for themselves at the Smile Time studios and assumed the form of puppets featured on the series. Using subliminal stimuli, they enticed children to come into physical contact with their television sets, at which point, the demons were able to siphon their life energy.
Investigating the early cases of child injuries was Angel who, upon discovering the Nest Egg, was turned into a puppet himself. Rallying together the rest of his colleagues in Team Angel, they raided the Smile Time studios and engaged the puppets in fierce combat. As the felt and fluff settled, Team Angel proved victorious and the puppets physical forms were destroyed. Presumably, their demonic essences returned to their point of origin. [1]
Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of Polo was created by writer and director Ben Edlund based on story concepts developed by Joss Whedon.
