Notes & Trivia[]

  • Pluto was once considered the ninth planet in Earth's solar system, but in 2006, the International Astronomical Union declared that Pluto was too small and puny for regular planetary designation, so it got demoted into "dwarf planet" status. Messed up, right?
  • Pluto is also the Roman name for Hades, who is the Greek God of the Underworld.
  • Pluto is also the name of an orange animated dog owned by Mickey Mouse. He is one of the few animal characters in the Walt Disney stable that cannot speak.
  • Mork from Ork from the 1970s sitcom series Mork & Mindy once thought aobut traveling to Pluto, but reconsidered, citing it as too much of a "Mickey Mouse planet". [can we get a frakkin' citation here?!]
  • In the Marvel Universe, natives of the planet Pluto are called Plutonians. They are a sentient bipedal humanoid race with a crystalline physical structure. Plutonians exist in the alternate future reality known as Earth-691.
