Planet of the Apes is an American science fiction film directed by Tim Burton. It is a remake of the original Franklin J. Schaffner film Planet of the Apes, which in turn was loosely based on the novella La Planète des Singes by French author Pierre Boulle. The screenplay was written by William Broyles, Jr., Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal and produced by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, the Zanuck Company and Tim Burton Productions. Ten years after its release, Twentieth Century Fox produced another film, Rise of the Planet Apes, which is presented as an origin story, but is itself a reboot project and does not take place within the same continuity as Tim Burton's film.
