Pilo is a fictional angel featured in the comic book series Preacher, published by DC Comics under their Vertigo imprint. He made a single appearance in Preacher #1 in April, 1995.

Biography[]

Pilo was an angel and a member of the order known as the Adelphi. The Adelphi undertook a very serious task, which was the recovery of an entity known as Genesis. Genesis was the disembodied offspring of an angel and a demon - the existence of which threatened the very stability of Heaven itself. Genesis manifested itself on Earth and took root in a human host - a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer. Desperate to acquire Genesis at any and all costs, the Adelphi concluded that the way to accomplish this task was to kill Jesse Custer.

To this end, Pilo elected to awaken the Saint of Killers - a being he felt could succeed in destroying Custer, and restoring the cosmic balance. Pilo awakened the Saint of Killers who literally jumped the gun and shot him in the head. Dismissing his own mistake as "Force of habit", the Saint remained long enough for the dying Pilo to give him his instructions. After which, he died. [1]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • As of season one, there was no counterpart to Pilo in the Preacher television series on AMC.
  • Like most of the Adelphi, Pilo was portrayed as a Caucasian male of indeterminate age, who was bald except for a white ponytail.
