A piano is a musical instrument. It was invented in the early 18th century in Italy by Bartolomeo Cristofori. It employs the use of a keyboard in which the individual keys are pressed or tapped, which causes a small wooden hammer to strike a string, creating a musical note. Modern pianos have a keyboard that includes eighty-eight keys, fifty-two of which are white for notes of the C major scale, and thirty-six are black for the "accidentals".
