Phil Brown was an American actor born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 30th, 1916. He is best known for playing the role of curmudgeonous Owen Lars in the 1977 film Star Wars. Brown's first role in a science fiction project was playing the role of Doctor Charles Wilson in the "Stranger in the Family" episode of Journey to the Unknown. Following Star Wars, Brown lent his voice to a narrative role in three episodes of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles. He also appeared in Richard Hatch's unmade Battlestar Galactica sequel, Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming playing the role of a council elder. Although the film was never completed or officially released, excerpts of it have been screened at various sci-fi conventions. Brown passed away from pneumonia at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California on Thursday, February 9th, 2006 at the age of eighty-nine.
