Biography[]
Peter Maximoff was the son of an unidentified mother who had an affair with the mutant known as Erik Lehnsherr sometime in the mid 1950s. Because of his father's mutant heritage, Peter was born with the X-gene, which gave him the power of super-speed.
In 1973, mutant scientists Charles Xavier and Hank McCoy, along with a time-traveling Wolverine enlisted Peter's aid in breaking Erik Lehnsherr out of a Pentagon prison. At this time, Peter had no idea that Erik was his father, but the thought of breaking into the Pentagon thrilled him, so he agreed. In the years following this affair, Peter was invited to become a member of the X-Men - a team of mutant super-hero activists. [2]
A decade later, Peter played a large role in a rescue operation, using his super-speed to save the lives of multiple mutant students as Xavier's X-Mansion exploded. He even saved the dog. By this point in time, Quicksilver had become a full-fledged member of the X-Men. [3]
Shortly thereafter, Peter and the X-Men fought up against Apocalypse, who had marshalled together his own team of Horsemen. Among them was Erik Lehnsherr. By this time, Peter had learned the truth about his parentage, though Erik was unaware that Peter was his son. Peter suffered a critical leg injury in the fight against Apocalypse, but eventually recovered. [3]
In the year 1992, the President of the United States made a request of Charles Xavier to employ his X-Men in a rescue mission of the space shuttle Endeavor, which had been damaged by a solar flare. During this mission, Peter's colleague, Jean Grey, bonded with a universal energy source known as the "Phoenix". The true nature of this power didn't manifest until later when they were back on Earth. The power of the Phoenix corrupted Jean, driving her insane, and she became known as Dark Phoenix. Dark Phoenix fought against her fellow X-Men, killing team leader Mystique, and crippling Peter. Once again, Quicksilver was sidelined from missions until he had time to sufficiently heal. [4]
What became of Peter Maximoff following these adventures has yet to be chronicled.

Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of Peter Maximoff was created by director Bryan Singer and screenplay writers Simon Kinberg, Jane Goldman, and Matthew Vaughn, based on concepts originally developed by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby.
- The comic book version of Pietro Maximoff first appeared using the code-name Quicksilver in the "The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants!" story from The X-Men, Volume 1 #4 in March, 1964.
- A version of the Quicksilver character also appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which was being released at the same time as the X-Men film series. The MCU version of Quicksilver, who went by the character's original name, Pietro Maximoff, was played by actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He had an introductory cameo appearance in a mid-credit stinger in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and went on to make a larger appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
- Another version of Peter Maximoff made a cameo appearance in the 2018 film Deadpool 2. Actor Evan Peters was in the middle of filming Dark Phoenix, along with actors James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, and Tye Sheridan, when they all made their collective appearance in Deadpool 2. It has to be assumed that this is a version of Peter from an alternate reality or alternate timeline, as the character would be in his early sixties during the time that Deadpool 2 takes place.
- In February, 2021, actor Evan Peters caused the internet to explode when he made surprise appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing the brother of Wanda Maximoff in the "On a Very Special Episode..." episode of the Disney+ series WandaVision.
- The 2017 film Logan, which takes place in the year 2028 establishes that an extremely aged Charles Xavier, suffering from dementia, accidentally projected a psychokinetic wave of energy that killed many mutants, including some of the X-Men. It is unknown whether Peter Maximoff was one of those who had been killed.
- Both of the live-action Quicksilver actors, Evan Peters and Aaron Taylor-Johnson also co-starred together in another super-hero movie based on a comic book, Kick-Ass. Aaron Taylor-Johnson played the lead role of Dave Lizewski, while Evan Peters played one of his best friends, Todd Hayes.
- One of the character's trademarks is that a song that was popular during the era in which the film takes place is playing while Quicksilver performs a super-speed rescue operation. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, his super-speed sequence is set against the musical backdrop of Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle". In X-Men: Apocalypse, the song "Sweet Dreams" by The Eurythmics is playing during the scene where he rescues students from the exploding mansion.
