Pepper spray, also known as mace, is a personal defense item. It is a liquid spray contained in a cannister that can be aimed at an asailant. If the spray gets into their eyes, it burns like Hell, and can momentarily blind them, allowing the user to get away or to incapacitate their foe. Women who find themselves exposed to dangerous environments may carry pepper spray on their person to defend themselves. Some law enforcement officers may also employ pepper spray as a non-lethal alternative to apprehending a criminal.
