The Penance Stare is a sub-application of a pneumatic control super-power featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is associated with the character of Noble Kale, who was a Spirit of Vengeance known as the Ghost Rider, who had bonded with the human, Danny Ketch. Ghost Rider possessed the ability to project the "Penance Stare" into the open eyes of an adversary. Upon doing so, they were immediately faced with the mental trauma of every horrible misdeed they had ever committed all at once. The guilt and/or psychological damage wrought by such a mental onslaught usually left the victim a quivering mass of flesh. The Penance Stare could only be used against those who possessed a human soul. For example, Ghost Rider once attempted to use the Penance Stare on Steel Vengeance, but the tactic failed because Steel Vengeance had already sold her soul in exchange for an opportunity of vengeance.
