Biography[]
Paul Preston was born the son of entrepreneur Stanley Preston and socialite Barbara Preston sometime in the late 19th century. As an adult, Paul became an Egyptologist and an associate of archaeologist Sir Basil Walden.
In 1920, Stanley Preston financed an expedition to Egypt, led by Sir Basil, to uncover the Tomb of Kah-to-Bey. The group discovered the tomb, but a radical local named Hasmid Ali, warned them against desecrating the tomb, or else they would be cursed. The group ignored the warning and unearthed the body and Sacred Shroud of the young Prince, Kah-to-Bey.
Hasmid Ali revived the mummy of Kah-to-Bey's slave caretaker, Prem, and used him as the vehicle by which to punish the foreigners. One by one, members of the expedition were being murdered. Paul's father urged him to return to England with him, but Paul refused. Along with a psychic linguist named Claire de Sangre, Paul had a final showdown with the mummy. He likely would have been killed, but Claire read a death spell aloud, which destroyed the mummy. [1]
Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of Paul Preston was created by director & screenwriter John Gilling and writer John Elder.
- Based upon the age of actor David Buck in relation to the year in which the events of the film take place, Paul Preston would have been born around the year 1889. However, Paul's parents were not married until 1894. Though it is possible, it is unlikely that Stanley and Barbara Preston would have had a child out of wedlock.
