Patrick "Eel" O'Brian is a fictional comic book superhero featured in titles originally published by Quality Comics, and later by DC Comics. He first appeared in the sixth story featured in Police Comics #1 in August, 1941.
Biography[]
"Eel" O'Brian was little more than a small-time thief. Along with his gang of underlings, he broke into and attempted to rob the Crawford Chemical Works. Police arrived on the scene, but as Eel and the others fled, he was exposed to deadly, toxic acid. He managed to make it outside, but stumbled down unconscious.
When he awakened, Eel found that his skin was now super-pliant. He could contort his limbs and facial features into any shape he desired. He was inside a small monastery where a kindly monk had chosen to nurse him back to health. The experience had changed more than jut Eel's physiology though. He felt that he has been given a second chance and renounced his former life of crime. Donning a stretchable costume and a pair of goggles, Eel decided to fight crime as the super-hero Plastic Man.
Plastic Man tracked down his old gang and stopped them from committing another robbery. He turned them over to the police and returned the stolen loot. The police had no idea that this strange, new hero was once a criminal. [5]
