"Spring. The birds are singing; the flowers are blooming; the sun is warming the Earth. Somewhere. Not here. It's 30 degrees out; it snowed nine feet last winter; and four frozen sodas just exploded in my truck. Welcome to Patience, Colorado."

Description[]

Patience is your regular ole podunk mountain town. In the TV series, it is firmly nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The mayor of Patience is Ben Hawthorne, who has a wife named Kate, and a young son named Max. The Sheriff of Patience is Mike Thompson, who prefers to be called "Big Black", and its not because of the color of his truck. His deputy is Liv Baker.

An alien space ship came to Earth on a mission to eradicate humanity. The vessel was struck by lightning, and the pilot crash-landed in the snow-capped mountains. The alien found a townie named Harry Vanderspeigle, whom he strangled to death, then took his form. For four months, he lived on the outskirts of town, desperately trying to recover a lost component from his ship, which he required to facilitate his doomsday mission.

Patience's resident physician was a man named Sam Hodges. Sam Hodges was murdered, and they were desperate to replace him. Discovering that "Harry" had medical experience, he was roped into becoming the town's new doctor. This made Harry very uncomfortable. For starters, this got in the way of his plan for global eradication of the human race, and secondly, he had yet to completely comprehend the ways of humanity enough to effectively act as one of them. To complicate matters even further, the mayor's son, Max, could see Harry in his true alien form.
