An ovormorph is a fictional biological construct featured in the Aliens film series. It first appeared in Alien in 1979, directed by Ridley Scott. As part of the life-cycle of alien Xenomorphs, it has appeared in nearly every form of media that a Xenomorph appears in.
Description[]
The ovomorph is the first stage of development of the Xenomorph aliens species. It is a leathery egg approximately three feet tall (100 cm), and weighs about fifty-six pounds. [1] The top of the egg consists of petal-shaped formations that open up to an aperture of 50 centimeters in diameter. Ovomorphs are laid by a Xenomorph queen. Inside each egg is a biological carrier colloquially referred to as a facehugger. An egg remains dormant until a living organism comes within proximity of it. At which point, the petals open, and the facehugger launches from inside, attaching itself to the face of its victim. From there, it implants a Xenomorph fetus into the victim's mouth, where it forms a parasitic bond with its host, ultimately growing into a "chestburster", which violently hatches itself from the body, killing the host in the process. The chestburster quickly grows into a an adult Xenomorph.
