"The Naked Sun" is the seventh episode of season three of the British science fiction television series Out of the Unknown and the thirty-second episode of the series overall. It was directed by Rudolph Cartier with a script written by Robert Muller. It first aired on BBC2 on February 18th, 1969.

- This episode is an adaptation of The Naked Sun, a science fiction story by Isaac Asimov that was first serialized in Astounding Science Fiction between October to December, 1956. It was published in novel format in 1957. It is the second installment in Asimov's "Robot" series.
- Like most of the series, this episode is considered a "lost episode". It was the standard practice of the BBC at the time to wipe their tapes after initial broadcasts.
- The setting for this episode is the future year of 2202.
- This is the second and final episode of Out of the Unknown directed by Rudolph Cartier. He previously directed "Level 7" in 1966, which was part of season two.
- This is the third and final episode of Out of the Unknown written by Robert Muller. He previously wrote the adaptation for "Beach Head", also in season three and "The Prophet" from season two.
- There are a total of sixteen credited cast members in this episode.
- Actor Gerald Taylor is no stranger to working as a robot. He also worked as a Dalek operator on numerous episodes of Doctor Who. He was also a war machine operator and the voice of WOTAN in "The War Machines" storyline from 1966.
