The Viper, whose real name is Ophelia Sarkissian, is a fictional comic book super-villain featured in titles published by Marvel Comics. She has also been referred to as Madame Hydra. Her actual name is seldom used. She first appeared in Captain America, Volume 1 #110 in February, 1969 in a story titled "No Longer Alone".

Overview[]

This mysterious woman came up through the ranks of HYDRA and became one of their most skilled and dangerous assassins. As such, she was granted the title of Viper and quickly ascended the ranks, earning herself a position of leadership as Madame Hydra. She has aligned herself with many dangerous criminal cartels over the years including the Hellfire Club and the Serpent Society. She eventually became the ruler of the Southeast Asian island nation of Madripoor. Her most enduring opponents have been Captain America, Wolverine, and the officers of the S.H.I.E.L.D. spy agency.

  • Viper was born in Székesfehérvár, Hungary.
  • A version of the Viper, who also went by the name of Doctor Green, appeared in the 2013 film The Wolverine. She was one of the central antagonists of the film and was played by actress Svetlana Khodchenkova.
