Odessa is an American city located in Ector county in the U.S. state of Texas. It was founded in 1881 as a water stop and cattle-shipping point on the Texas and Pacific Railway. Odessa became the county seat of Ector County in 1891 when the county was first organized. It was incorporated as a city in 1927, after oil was discovered in Ector County on the Connell Ranch southwest of Odessa. Odessa made appearances on the NBC television series Heroes, and its 2015 spin-off, Heroes Reborn. It is the home of Claire Bennet, and her family.
Union Wells High School is a public high school located in the city of Odessa in Texas. In the mid-2000s, Claire Bennet attended school here, along with her best friend, Zach. Another student at Union Wells was Jackie Wilcox, who was a rival of Claire's. Both girls were cheerleaders for the school's football team. When it became known that someone wearing a Union Wells cheerleading outfit was witnessed saving a man from a burning fire, Jackie Wilcox stepped up to take all the credit. However, it was actually Claire who had saved the man, for she was gifted with the power of accelerated healing.
The Odessa Register was the name of a newspaper that circulated through the city of Odessa, Texas. In October of 2006, the newspaper reported an unbelievable story about a mysterious individual who rushed into a burning train to rescue an injured worker. Though no accurate reporting could identify the brave rescuer, the person responsible for the act was teenager Claire Bennet, whose evolved human ability enabled her to instantly heal from any damage. The headlines for the Odessa Register on the morning following the incident read, "Train derails, Explodes", with supporting front page headlines that read, "Mysterious Good Samaritan Saves Man" and "Local Elementary Schools Address the Problem of Stealing". The day after the train accident, Claire was reading a copy of the Odessa Register in her home when her father, Noah, entered and distracted her.
