Nunchaku, sometimes referred to as "nunchuks", are a type of martial arts fighting weapon. They consist of two wooden shafts linked together by a length of chain. They are hand-held melee weapons that can be swung about and used as bludgeoning tools. They are a popular form of weapon employed by certain martial arts groups such as ninjas, as well as some super-hero teams like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
In modern society, the nunchaku was first popularized in the United States by Japanese martial artist and movie star Bruce Lee. On the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, nunchaku is the preferred weapon of choice of Michelangelo. Michelangelo referred to those who practiced this visual martial arts form as "chuckers".
