Nuclear weapons testing refers to any series of controlled tests and examinations designed to determined the effectiveness of atomic and nuclear materials. Nations that conduct such testing have the scientific acumen to develop weapons based on nuclear energy, usually in the form of missiles or bombs. To demonstrate the destructive capabilities of these weapons, and to show the rest of the world who has the bigger wang, countries will conduct explosive tests of nuclear material in perceived safety zones.
Since 1945, nearly all nuclear-capable nation has conducted tests to some degree or another. Many of these tests were executed underground, while others were atmospheric or underwater. Known testing sites include the Trinity tests at White Sands, New Mexico, Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands, and the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.
Atomic monsters[]
It goes without saying, that when atomic or nuclear tests are conducted, monsters will soon follow. The Japanese will tell you all about it. Thanks to some atomic tests conducted at Bikini Atoll by the United States government after World War II, the residual atomic radiation had an adverse effect on undersea wildlife, mutating some unknown breed of dinosaur into the atomic breath-spewing King of the Monsters known as Godzilla. In the early 1960s, Infant Island was the site of various atomic tests conducted by members of the government of the nation of Rolisica. A Japanese vessel was caught in a typhoon and washed ashore on Infant Island. They met the native islanders and were given a mysterious red berry juice, which protected them from the effects of exposure to ambient radiation. The team was eventually rescued and taken to the National Synthesis Nucleus Center, where it was discovered that they had not been affected by radiation in any way. [3]
If that weren't enough, continued tests succeeded in pissing off the denizens of a hidden undersea utopia appropriately named, Seatopia. Since the Seatopians were not exactly the "forgive and forget" sort, they decided to demonstrate their frustration by sending their monster god Megalon to the surface to wreak havoc. Fortunately, Godzilla and his robotic buddy Jet Jaguar were able to take care of this mess. [4]
