Nova bombs are torpedo weapons with high-grade explosive components that are usually fitted on starships. A High Guard ship of the line may contain as many as forty nova bombs in its weapons' bay. Nova bombs are also used by the smaller Type 2 Arclight slipfighter spacecraft. A substantive supply of nova bombs contains enough destructive firepower to destroy a sun, a black hole or even an entire star system. [1]
History[]
In CY 9784, at what would become known as the Battle of Hephaistos, Commander Gaheris Rhade of the starship Andromeda Ascendant recommended using Nova bombs to combat a Nietzschean fleet 10,000 strong. Captain Dylan Hunt countered his recommendation, stating that such an assault would destroy the entire star system. [2]
In CY 10087, Captain Hunt was forced to launch the Andromeda 's entire Nova bomb payload at a rogue black hole in order to save his ship from being crushed within its gravitational singularity. Forty Nova bombs were launched, causing the black hole to explode outward, turning it into a white hole. [3]

- The active explosive element used in the manufacture of Nova bombs is Voltarium. Voltarium is extremely radioactive and prolonged exposure to un-maintenanced Nova bombs will eventually prove fatal. [4]
- A barrage of forty or more Nova bombs can change a black hole into a white hole, in essence, duplicating the effects of the Big Bang.[5]
- The children aboard Guard Station GS-92196 referred to Nova bombs as "Noble bombs". [6]
