Biography[]
Nils Pitcairn served as the transporter Chief aboard the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 under the command of Captain Christopher Pike in the mid 2250s. When the Enterprise intercepted a distress signal originating from the Talos Star Group, Captain Pike arranged a six-person landing party. Pitcairn beamed them down to the surface of Talos IV and beamed five crew members back up after Captain Pike had been abducted by the Talosians. He later sent a landing party back down to the planet along with a large, tripod laser cannon, which they had hoped would free Pike from his underground prison. When this tactic failed, the crew returned to the Enterprise. A third visit to the planet's surface did not go as expected either. The Talosians sabotaged the transporter beam route, allowing only First Officer Number One and Yeoman J.M. Colt to beam down to the surface. [1]
By the year 2264, Nils Pitcairn was no longer serving aboard the Enterprise. He was succeeded by Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. [2]
Some of Pitcairn's actions were remembered by the Talosians and subsequently included in a thought transmission that was shown on an Enterprise monitor screen thirteen years later, in 2267. [3]
