A nightmare box is a mystical artifact of dark occult origin that relate to the demon known as Thog. There have been several such devices that have appeared and have reached the hands of individuals such as Danielle Nicolle and even the Man-Thing. Danielle Nicolle possessed some measure of empathic psychic energy, as did the Man-thing, and could use that power to charge the boxes with energy, which would be used to create a tower that Thog intended to use as his stepping stone towards ultimate power.
