Nick was a man who lived in Gotham County on the outskirts of Gotham City. He found Ivy Pepper wandering about by the river who seemed to be stumbling in a daze. He brought her to his home and tried to help her, offering her something to drink. Ivy took note of the mistreatment that Nick gave to his house plants. Nick scoffed at her observation, citing that they were "just plants". Ivy could not condone this at all, and killed him.
