- Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. He first appeared in Action Comics #1 in June, 1938 in a story called "Superman, Champion of the Opressed".
- The title of this program has also been used as a subtitle for the ABC series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
- This is the first full-length animated series produced by Filmation Associates.
- This is the first animated television iteration of Superman, his supporting cast and adversaries.
- Voice actors Bud Collyer and Joan Alexander originally voiced the characters of Superman and Lois Lane on the 1940s Superman radio show, as well as the Max Fleischer film shorts.
- All episodes of the series are included on the The New Adventures of Superman two-disc DVD collection, which was released by Warner Home Video on June 26th, 2007.
