Domino is the code name of a fictional comic book mutant adventurer, whose real name is Neena Thurman. She is presented as an anti-hero and appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is considered part of the mainstream Marvel Universe. Originally, the character was believed to have been introduced in the pages of New Mutants #98 in February, 1991 where she worked alongside the New Mutants, which eventually evolved into the more proactive and militant team X-Force. Her appearances here continued into X-Force, Volume 1. By issue 11 however, it was revealed that the woman that everyone believed to be Domino was actually a shape-shifter named Vanessa Carlysle, who had assumed Domino's form. The real Domino was introduced in a flashback story from ten years prior in issue #8 in March, 1992.
History[]
Origin[]
Neena Thurman was the product of a special mutant breeding program known as Project Armageddon. She was born with albino-white skin and the ability to manipulate probabilities, giving her uncommonly fortunate luck. This was deemed as a non-viable trait for the project's goals at creating the ultimate weapon however. Neena's biological mother broke her out of the facility and took her to Chicago, Illinois where she was raised at the Church of the Sacred Heart by Father Rudolpho Boschelli. As an adult, Neena left the church and plied her talents and abilities at mercenary work.
The Wild Pack[]
Adopting the code name Domino, Neena Thurman joined a group of mercenaries known as the Wild Pack, which was led by an austere time-traveling militant named Nathaniel Summers, aka Cable. She developed a close association with Cable and also formed a bond with the group's power house Grizzly.
Domino assisted on a mission to New Mexico to retrieve a stolen A.I.M. device known as a Fiber Ionic Fibrillator (FIFI). The device had been taken to a HYDRA facility, and Domino helped take down the perimeter guards, giving the rest of the group access to the base. [2]
X-Force[]
Eventually, Domino's good luck was fated to run out. Some nine years after the New Mexico mission, she was captured by a powerful weapons broker named Tolliver, who was actually Cable's son from the future, Tyler Dayspring. He kept Domino imprisoned in a dungeon in his castle keep in Austria for nearly a year. Tolliver had a shape-shifting mutant named Vanessa Carlysle assume Domino's form and infiltrate Cable's circle of friends, which at this time, were his charges in the New Mutants. Cable's team eventually rebranded themselves as X-Force and Vanessa continued to maintain her identity as Domino until they learned the truth. Domino freed herself and joined the ranks of X-Force.
