Mystery kites are mystical artifacts. They are comprised of bone frames and the skins of specially selected murder victims. The souls of those whose flesh went into construction of the kites is imprisoned within the frames by occult geometry. As such, they become slaves of the Cult of the Unwritten Book. The mystery kites serve as scouts and pointmen to the cult. The kites have crude sensory insights. They can detect a heartbeat that is more than sixty beats per minute. In short, they can track you through fear. One of the souls trapped within the kites was once a friend of mystic Willoughby Kipling. He was taken on the night before he was to take his driver's test. The kites came after the Unwritten Book in a hotel accompanied by the tricycle-riding Wynken, Blynken, and Nod. (Doom Patrol Vol 2 31)
