Mysterious Island is a fifteen-chapter film serial, which is an adaptation of the 1874 novel Mysterious Island by author Jules Verne. The serial was directed by Spencer Bennet with a screenplay written by Lewis Clay, Royal K. Cole and George H. Plympton. The series was produced by Sam Katzman Productions. It was distributed theatrically by Columbia Pictures and screened from August 23rd to September 13th, 1951.

Mysterious Island is an adventure novel written by Jules Verne in 1875. It was originally published by Hetzel under the French title L'Île mystérieuse.

The events of this film are supposed to take place after 20,000 Leagues, even though the events of that story occurred in 1866, less than a year after the events of this story.

The primary setting of this film is the fictional Lincoln Island in the South Pacific in the year 1865.

This serial takes several liberties with the original Jules Verne tale, most notably the inclusion of alien Mercurians. There were no aliens in any of Verne's work.

This is the first film serial that Fayte Browne has worked on as a director of photogrpahy that wasn't a Western. He will also direct Captain Video, Master of the Stratosphere, later this same year.
