Meet Kamala Khan. She's sixteen-years-old. Into Avengers fan fiction. Good at school. Bad at fitting in. So when a strange mist descends and morphs Kamala into a shape-shifting superhuman... fitting in is the least of her problems.
"Meta Morphosis"[]
Having just been exposed to the Terrigen Mist, Kamala Khan finds herself resembling her hero, Captain Marvel. In the midst of panicking, she discovers that she has shape-shifting powers. The development of these powers could not have come at a better time. While returning home from a party, the highly intoxicated Zoe Zimmer and her boyfriend Josh are stumbling back home when Zoe falls into the Hudson River. Kamala uses her powers to "embiggen" her hand into a giant scoop, and fishes Zoe out of the water. Kamala then races home, and tries to sneak into her bedroom, but it is too late. Her parents are already aware that she snuck out without permission. Her pious brother Aamir promises that he will say a prayer for her, but her odds are not looking good right now.

- Kamala Khan's appearance in this issue is similar to that of Carol Danvers when she first donned her black costume in Ms. Marvel #20 in October, 1978.
- The song that an inebriated Josh is singing to Zoe Zimmer is "I Just Called to Say I Love You", which was written and performed by R&B legend Stevie Wonder, which appeared on The Woman in Red official motion picture soundtrack in 1984.
- Josh also sings an alcohol-influenced version of "Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest. The song was originally written in 1970, but released as a single by United Artists in 1972.
- It is possible that this may be the first use of the word "Embiggen" to describe the act of increasing one's size and mass.
- Kamala Khan has a poster of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel in her bedroom. Carol's pose in the poster is taken from the cover to Captain Marvel, Volume 7 #2.
