"Generation Why" is the first episode of the Ms. Marvel miniseries event produced by Marvel Studios. It was directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah with a script written by Bisha K. Ali. It premiered on the Disney+ streaming service on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022. The series stars Iman Vellani as Kamal Khan - a Pakistani American who becomes the inheritor of a wondrous destiny. Co-starring in the series is Matt Lintz as her BFF Bruno Carrelli, Zenobia Shroff as her mother Muneeba, Mohan Kapur as her father Yusuf, Saagar Shaikh as her brother Aamir, and Yasmeen Fletcher as Kamala's friend Nakia Bahadir.

- The cover to Ms. Marvel, Volume 3 #1, which is the first ongoing series to feature Kamala Khan can be seen as grafitti on the wall of one of the buildings during the closing credits.
- While recording her video for Sloth Baby Productions, Kamala makes reference to the Avengers and their fight against Thanos, giving biased attention to Carol Danvers commitment to the struggle. This took place in Avengers: Endgame.
- Kamala Khan invites Nakia to play Super Smash Bros., which she refuses. Super Smash Bros. is a crossover fighting fighting game published by Nintendo, and was first released in 1999.
- Reference is made to Darth Vader in this episode. Darth Vader is a central antagonist featured in the Star Wars multimedia franchise. He is characterized by his deep voice, black body armor, and his red lightsaber. Both Lucasfilm, who produces Star Wars, and Marvel Studios, which produces Ms. Marvel are owned by Walt Disney Productions.
- The guidance counselor's name is Gabe Wilson. This is a reference to comic book writer and Kamala Khan co-creator G. Willow Wilson.
- Kamala Khan posits the theory that Thor is a closet gamer. It turns out she's rights. Thor is seen participating in a MMORG with Korg in Avengers: Endgame.
- The poster of Carol Danvers seen in Kamala's room is taken from the cover to Captain Marvel, Volume 7 #5 from December, 2012. It was illustrated by Terry Dodson and Rachel Dodson.
- Guidance counselor Wilson makes reference to the 1998 animated film Mulan, which is also a Walt Disney Productions property. He quotes a lyric from the song reflection.
