Biography[]
Ms. Barton was a substitute teacher who worked at Sunnydale High School in 1998. She was called in to cover for Rupert Giles' study hall class after Giles blew off class in order to sit at home listening to Cream albums with Joyce Summers. Like Giles, Ms. Barton was infected by tainted "Milk Bar" candy bars that made adults act like wild teenagers. During class, she encouraged the class to "pretend to read" and expressed her shared desire to "get outta here". Students Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenberg, Cordelia Chase and Xander Harris felt that Barton's behavior was quite odd.
Later, they encountered Ms. Barton, as well as other school staff members at the Bronze. The older woman appeared to be intoxicated and made sport of Willow's name, referring to her as a "little tree". She then stumbled off in search of Nachos. Principal Snyder, who was also present, took note of her behavior and thought she was "wasted". [1]
