Mount Fuji is a big-ass mountain in Japan. It is also a big-ass volcano. It is the second highest mountain in Japan, and is located on the island of Honshu. It has an elevation of 12,389 feet (and three inches. Can't forget the three inches, or it just isn't as impressive), or 3,776.24 meters. Mount Fuji is also the second highest volcano in Asia. The mountain is located about 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Tokyo and is visible from there on clear days. Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is covered in snow for about five months of the year, is commonly used as a cultural icon of Japan and it is frequently depicted in art and photography, as well as visited by sightseers, hikers and mountain climbers.
In fiction[]
In 1964, the giant monsters Godzilla and Rodan were swapping blows at the base of Mount Fuji when they were interrupted by the untimely arrival of the three-headed space dragon known as Ghidorah. [1]
In 1967 the giant turtle monster known as Gamera fought against an equally impressive monster called Gyaos. Gamera dragged Gyaos to Mount Fuji and killed him by dropping him into its crater. Before dying, Gyaos fired his sonic beam into the sky, as a final at of defiance. [2]
An invading alien race known as the Kilaaks established a secret base of operations underneath Mount Fuji. It was here that they were able to use their advanced technology to take control of the world's monsters. [3]
