Morgan le Fay, also known as Morgana Le Fay as well as other alternate spellings, is a fictional sorceress that features prominently in Arthurian legend. She has been represented as a witch, a fairy, or sometimes a fairy halfling. She is the half-sister of the Once and Future King, Arthur Pendgragon, and the mother of Mordred. The character has featured prominently in other forms of fiction as well, including stories produced by both Marvel Comics and DC Comics. The Marvel Comics version of Morgan le Fay first appeared in The Black Knight #1 in May, 1955. An immortal sorceress, she has lived on well into the modern era and has served as an adversary to Spider-Woman, the Avengers, and the Defenders. In DC Comics, Morgaine le Fey, is similarly the half-sister of King Arthur and has had numerous battles against the demonic child of Merlin known as Etrigan. Morgaine first appeared in Batman #36, but the more popularly known Silver Age version of Morgaine was introduced in The Demon #1 in September, 1972.
