Description & History[]
Monster Isle is a small desert island with a single mountain peak located somewhere in the South Pacific, not far from the island of Japan. Underground caverns beneath the desert lead down into a vast warren of caves and caverns that has since come to be known as Subterranea. Many years ago, a disgruntled nuclear engineer named Harvey Elder decided to disassociate himself from humanity and went on a quest to find the center of the Earth. His journey was fraught with peril and he washed up on the shore of the uncharted desert island. While mountain climbing, an avalanche occurred, plunging him into an underground ravine, resulting in Elder becoming permanently blind. The warrens led to a vast valley, which he named Subterranea and there he discovered various races of bizarre primitive dwellers. Dubbing himself the Mole Man, he became their king and declared himself ruler of Subterranea.
