Mellifers are a breed of wesen. They assume a humanoid appearance, but in their natural state, they take on the characteristics of bees. At least four Mellifers were known to inhabit the city of Portland, Oregon in 2011. The queen of this group, Melissa Wincroft, engaged in a plot to avenge herself against the lawyers responsible for shutting down her family's company, the Primrose Paper Mill. Three of her would-be victims also happened to be Hexenbiests.
A Mellifer's greatest strength is its ability to communicate with others, as well as the ability to produce deadly amounts of apitoxin. Through Wincroft, the Mellifers coordinated her revenge plot via social media, sending out anonymous tweets for people to engaged in a flash mob. In the midst of such an affair, they would single out their target and kill them. The first victim of the Mellifers was Serena Dunbrook, whom they murdered during a flash mob dance aboard a Portland street car. Their second victim was Camilla Gotlieb. As with Serena, she was killed through an injection of a deadly overdose of apitoxin.
Melissa's next target was Adalind Schade, but by this point, Portland detectives Nick Burkhardt and Hank Griffin were making steady leads on the case. A final battle between the opposing fronts took place at the abandoned paper mill. Melissa tried to warn Burkhardt that something immense was looming on the horizon, but as she tried to kill Adalind, Burkhardt was forced to put her down. She died without being able to reveal the true meaning behind her cryptic message.
