Megalon, also known as Megaron and Megalo, is a fictional giant monster and an antagonist featured in the Godzilla film series and related media. Played by suitmation actor Hideto Odachi, he first appeared in the 1973 Japanese movie Godzilla vs. Megalon.
History[]
Megalon was a giant insectoid creature of godlike proportions, standing at a height of approximateily 88 meters and weighing in at 40,000 metric tons. He was a deity to a race of underground humanoids known as the Seatopians. The Seatopians used Megalon as their vehicle of vengeance against the surface world for their years of nuclear weapons testing. The Seatopians also managed to wrest control of a giant robot dubbed Jet Jaguar to do their bidding. Jet Jaguar's inventor, Goro Ibuki, found a way to free the robot and Jet Jaguar rebelled against Megalon.
Without access to their secondary weapon, the Seatopians enlisted the aid of aliens from the M Space Hunter Nebula, who sent another kaiju named Gigan to aid them. Gigan arrived and he and Megalon double-teamed Jet Jaguar. Eventually, Godzilla arrived and joined forces with Jet Jaguar against Gigan and Megalon. Gigan abandoned the battle and returned to outer space, leaving Megalon to get pummeled by the combined forces of Godzilla and Jet Jaguar. [1]
Abilities[]
- Bio-weaponry: Megalon's arms terminate into two rotating drill bits, which are ideal weapons for close quarters combat. Also really good for picking one's nose, but impossible if faced with a Rubik's Cube challenge.
- Energy projection: Megalon has a horn on his head that enables him to fire blasts of energy.
- Superhuman strength: This is reflective of the fact that Megalon is a giant monster, and as such, has physical characteristics appropriate for his size and weight. However, his strength, dexterity and durability seems to be no greater than any other kaiju.
- Superhuman durability: Megalon's skin is very dense and very hard to wound, scratch or penetrate. This is reflective of the fact that Megalon is a giant monster, and as such, has physical characteristics appropriate for his size and weight. However, his strength, dexterity and durability seems to be no greater than any other kaiju.
- Winged flight: Megalon possesses a pair of insectoid wings on his back that enables him to fly. The physics behind this are lost on everyone.
