The mechanical dinosaur is a fictional item featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It is associated with the Batman line of titles and first appered in the first story in Batman, Volume 1 #10 from April-May, 1942 titled "The Isle That Time Forgot".
Bruce Wayne once gave Dick Grayson his own smaller version of the Batplane as a birthday present. During their maiden voyage, the plane got caught in an intense storm, and they were forced to land on an island. As Batman & Robin, the Dynamic Duo faced off against perilous threats including angry natives, a boa constrictor, a saber-toothed tiger, and a giant dinosaur. Ultimately however, they discovered that these animals were actually props from a movie that was being filmed on the island. Batman and Robin returned home, but at some point arranged to keep the dinosaur as a trophy. They placed it inside the Batcave where it remains to this day. How the hell they got it in there is anyone's guess.
