Biography[]
When she was a young woman, Maya Hansen met industrialist Tony Stark and was instantly enamored with him. They became romantic with one another for a brief time, but their true commitment was to their respective careers. In time, Maya founded the biotechnological research firm known as FuturePharm. In 2004, Maya's research team developed an enhancile that combined chemical components with nanite technology. Her project leader, Aldrich Killian, stole a sample of the Extremis compound and it eventually fell into the hands of a domestic terrorist named Mallen. Killian committed suicide soon after and Hansen found his bloody body on the floor of his office. When she discovered that Extremis had been stolen, she contacted the only man she felt she could turn to - Tony Stark. (Iron Man Vol 4 1)
