Electro is a fictional comic book supervillain, whose real name is Maxwell Dillon. He appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics and is classically seen as a foe of Spider-Man. Electro has the ability to generate electricity from his body, though he usually channels this through his hands.
Biography[]
Origin[]
Maxwell Dillon was once a very talented lineman with a power company. One day, a co-worker named Harris had injured himself while working on a power pole. Their boss pleaded with Dillon to help him, but Dillon would only agree if his boss would provide a financial bonus. After bribing Dillon with an extra one-hundred dollars, Max ascended the pole and lowered Harris to safety. Just then, a tremendous lighting bolt struck Dillon. Rather than killing him however, it imbued with the ability to generate electricity from his hands. Seeing opportunity for greater fortune, Maxwell Dillon became the costumed super-villain known as Electro.
Early capers[]
Electro's first documented crime involved robbing the Forest Hills Bank. He used his powers to short out the alarms and then antagonized the bank manager, as well as a customer named J. Jonah Jameson. After which, he shorted out the controls to the bank vault and made off with the loot.
The following day, Electro went to the West Side House of Detention and freed several prisoners, cajoling these thugs into becoming his hired goons. Spider-Man arrived to confront Electro. Donning rubber gloves and booties to insulate himself against Electro, Spider-Man finally put the villain down by dousing him with a prison fire hose. [1]
Electro escaped from prison shortly thereafter. He headed up a new criminal gang, which operated a chop shop, fencing stolen cars. This operation was busted up by Daredevil however.
Max then caught word that the world famous Fantastic Four would be out of town, so he used this opportunity to break into their headquarters at the Baxter Building. Coincidentally, Daredevil arrived here as well and fought against Electro. After dodging numerous electric bolts, Daredevil managed to shut off the lights to give himself an advantage. The tactic failed however, and Electro was able to knock him out. He then placed the unconscious hero into the FF's space rocket and launched him into outer space. With Daredevil out of the way, Electro broke into Reed Richards' private vault. He intended on stealing all of Reed's notes and sell them to a foreign power. As it turned out, Daredevil managed to reverse the rocket's course and return to Earth. Electro confronted him again and he tried escaping by riding the power cables of an elevator. He managed to get outside and Daredevil pursued him across the city. Electro fled into a stage theater and Daredevil chased him across a catwalk. He released the heavy curtains, which caused Electro to fall. Police arrived on the scene and short circuited Electro with fire hoses. After which, he was returned to prison. [2]

Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Electrokinesis: Electro has the ability to generate high kilowatts of electricity from his body. This is a self-activating power and not a passive ability. He can radiate an electrical field around his entire body granting him protection from low-level physical attacks. He can "ride" electrical currents, charge equipment, and project bolts of electricity from his hands.
- Energy projection: A sub-application of Electrokinesis, this power is limited to the ability to generate electricity. Electro can emit powerful bolts or streams of electricity that can incapacitate a target from a distance.
- Power immunity: As an altered human, Electro is immune to the effects of his own power. He is also immune to electrocution and electrical phenomena from an alternative source. Note: This was not always the case however. In early stories, Electro could be incapacitated through an electrical charge. [3]
Weaknesses[]
- Power vulnerability: While actively using his powers, a high-pressure water hose can incapacitate him, often rendering him unconscious.
