The Masamune blade is a fictional weapon featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It relates to the Wolverine and X-Men family of comic book titles published by Marvel Comics. It first appeared in Wolverine #1 in September, 1982.
The Masamune blade is one of two katanas that were forged some eight-hundred years ago by the Japanese swordsmith Masamune. For centuries, it has been handed down through the family line of Clan Yashida and has come to be known as the Honor Sword of Clan Yashida. They are regarded as the "soul" of the family.
The swords were passed down to Mariko Yashida following the death of her father, Shingen Harada. She presented them as a dowery to her Canadian lover, Wolverine when they agreed to be married, but the wedding never materialized due to the machinations of Mastermind.
