The Mary Janes are a fictional music group featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are associated with the Spider-Man line of comic titles and are part of the "Spider-Verse" continuity known as Earth-65. They first appeared in Edge of Spider-Verse #2 in November, 2014.

Overview[]

The Mary Janes were a teenage all-female punk rock band. They were founded by Mary Jane "Em Jay" Watson, who was the lead singer and bass player. Glory Grant played keyboards, Betty Brant played lead guitar and Gwen Stacy was the percussionist.

History[]

The Mary Janes often practiced in the gymnasium at Midtown High School. They were scheduled to play a set at a night club, but Gwen was late to the performance due to her extracurricular activities as Spider-Woman.

Just as the concert was getting ready to begin, a massive Russian criminal named Aleksei Sytsevich raided the club seeking to kill Gwen's father, police captain George Stacy. Gwen never got the chance to perform that evening, for she had to change into Spider-Woman once again to defeat Aleksei. [1]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • During performances, the Mary Janes often wore black leotards and matching striped tops, which were either green or orange in color.
  • One of the lyrics from a Mary Janes song is a variation of the phrase "Face it, Tiger... you just hit the jackpot!", which is a famous line by the Earth-616 version of Mary Jane Watson, which was first spoken in Amazing Spider-Man #42 in November, 1966.
