The Key is an editor's tool designed for this wiki to help contributors determine an appropriate and consistent naming convention for articles relating to the Marvel Universe that may be found on various disambiguation pages. The Marvel Universe refers to everything found in comic books published by Marvel Comics. As this wiki also includes licensed properties relating to Marvel Worldwide, Inc., Marvel Productions, Marvel Enterprises and the Marvel Comics Group, there are going to be many articles with similar names. All major characters from the Marvel Universe should have articles titled after the character's most commonly used real name. Code names are to avoided as title pages as these often change over time. Formal names are not required or recommended unless they also happen to be the character's most commonly used name. Example: A page about the comic book version of the Thing should be named Ben Grimm, not Benjamin J. Grimm. All character variations of the parent character should be identified by the parent character's name followed by a backward slash followed by a short descriptor acronym of their continuity of origin. If a canon Marvel Universe character has a common name which may be similar to a non-comic related article, than the descriptor MU (Marvel Universe) should follow the character's name after the back slash. This is to be used sparingly and should not be applied to any of the major characters featured in the Marvel Universe.
Example[]
If one wanted to create a page about the supervillain the Sandman from the film Spider-Man 3, it is necessary to name the page appropriately so as to distinguish it from other versions of the character. The character's canon real name in the comics is William Baker, who also went by the alias Flint Marko. In Spider-Man 3, the character was only identified as Flint Marko. The acronym used by this database to refer to the original Sam Raimi films is SMF02 (Spider-Man Films, 2002). Since Raimi's films all take place in the same continuity, the year applies to the release of the film series as a whole. Use SMF02 regardless of which of the three films the character first appeared int. So the Sandman character page for Spider-Man 3 would be Flint Marko/SMF02.
