Martha Wayne is a fictional murder victim and a comic book character featured in titles published by DC Comics. She is associated with the Batman family of comic book titles and has been represented in nearly every continuity connected with the franchise. She first appeared in Detective Comics, Volume 1 #33 in November, 1939. As the character was established as being deceased prior to her first appearance, all appearances of Martha Wayne occur in flashback.

Martha Wayne is presented as a wealthy socialite and wife of prominent Gotham City physician, Thomas Wayne. The Waynes had one child, Bruce. While walking home from a movie theater one evening, a mugger named Joe Chill accosted them. He murdered Thomas and Martha Wayne right before the eyes of their terrified son. Witnessing his parents' deaths, infused young Bruce Wayne with a profound sense of justice and he dedicated his life towards combating the cowardly and superstitious criminals of Gotham in the costumed guise of Batman.
