Marla MacGivers was a fictional military lieutenant and historian featured in the Star Trek television franchise. She was played by actress Madlyn Rhue and appeared in the 1967 episode of the original series "Space Seed".

Overview[]

Marla McGivers was an historian and a member of the Federation Starfleet holding the rank of Lieutenant. In the year 2267 she was stationed aboard the starship USS Enterprise NCC-1701. McGivers became infatuated with a 20th century Earth man named Khan Noonien Singh and even committed treason and sided with Khan when he attempted to wrest control of the Enterprise from it's captain, James T. Kirk. The plot failed and both Khan and McGivers, as well as all of Khan's followers were exiled to the planet Ceti Alpha V. McGivers died on the planet sometime later after being infected by the dangerous Ceti eels.

  • The death of Marla McGivers was revealed in the 1982 film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. It was also revealed at this time that Khan and McGivers were wed, though this was not conducted in any legally recognized fashion. Despite this, he regarded her as "my beloved wife" while recounting the tale of her passing.
  • The role of Marla McGivers is actress Madlyn Rhue's only work in the science fiction genre.
  • Additional information about Marla McGivers, particularly her experiences after being marooned on Ceti Alpha V, is revealed in the 2005 novel Star Trek: To Reign in Hell: The Exile of Khan Noonien Singh by Greg Cox.
