Mariko Yashida is a fictional businesswoman and clan leader featured in comic book titles published by Marvel Comics. She is part of the mainstream Marvel Universe and first appeared in X-Men, Volume 1 #118 in February, 1979.
Overview[]
Mariko Yashida is the former head of Clan Yashida, based out of Agarashima, Japan. She is the daughter of Japanese crimelord Shingen Harada and the former wife of Noburu-Hideki. She mainained a longterm romantic relationship with the Canadian adventurer, Wolverine, and the two were at one point engaged to be married. She became the guardian of Wolverine's adopted foster daughter, Amiko Kobayashi. Her other relations include Keniuchio Harada, aka the Silver Samurai and Shiro Yoshida, aka Sunfire. After many years of trying to keep Clan Yashida free of the influences of Japanese cartels such as The Hand, Mariko was eventually poisoned by Hand leader Matsu'o Tsurayaba. To avoid prolonged suffering, Mariko asked Wolverine to grant her a merciful death, which he did.
