Mariel Underlay refers to a fictional doctor as well as the body snatcher that took her place as seen in the ABC television series Invasion. Played by actress Kari Matchett, she was a main character on the show and was credited in all twenty-two episodes of the series.
Overview[]
Mariel Underlay was a hospital physician and a resident of Homestead, Florida. She was originally married to Russell Varon and had two children with him, Jesse and Rose Varon. Mariel and Russell got divorced and she married the town's sheriff, Tom Underlay. She became the stepmother to Tom's daughter from a previous marriage, Kira.
Following the events of Hurricane Eve in 2005, Mariel was one of several individuals who had died and had their physical form duplicated by an alien spore that replicated their memories and personality. By and large, these subverted people were unaware that they were anything other than human. Eventually however, Mariel began to suspect the truth, when she discovered that her body was creating dozens of eggs.

After seeing a body floating in the bay, Mariel convinced her husband to dredge the lake. He later told her that they had found nothing.
