Marie L'Angell is a fictional occult practitioner and an antagonist featured in the Preacher comic book series and television adaptation. She was introduced in Preacher #8 in November, 1995. On the TV series, Marie L'Angell made her first appearance in the season two episode, "Backdoors". She was portrayed by actress Julie Oliver-Touchstone in that episode. She became a major character in season three of the Preacher television series where she was played by actress Betty Buckley.
Biography[]
Marie L'Angell was an elderly woman from rural Louisiana and the head of a plantation house known as Angelville. She was an occultist and businesswoman who used her knowledge of the arcane in order to make a profit. Customers from all around would come to Angelville for a variety of needs, either to acquire a magic spell to cure their alcoholism, or to increase their libido. For those who could not pay for their services in full at the time of treatment, Marie L'Angell would create a blood compact, wherein they were obligated to satisfy all debts, monetary or otherwise, to her satisfaction.
