History[]
Mapleton was a city located in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It appeared to be a fairly average town with middle class to upper class homes. It was the home of the Banning family, who lived in a large estate. It had its own sheriff's department, a local hospital, and a cemetery. In 1970, an Egyptian high priest named Mehemet Bey brought the mummy of Kharis to Mapleton. He used the mummy as a vehicle of vengeance against the families who violated the tomb of the princess Ananka thirty years earlier. Following a string of deaths, Mehemet Bey was eventually killed, and Kharis was defeated when he was set on fire; a fire that also caused massive damage to the Banning estate.
Points of Interest[]
- Banning estate
- The Banning estate was a large plantation house located in the city of Mapleton in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It was the home of archaeologist Steve Banning and his wife, Marta Sullivan-Banning. Steve's older sister, Jane Banning resided at the estate as well, implying that it might have been in the family for generations. Steve and Marta's son, John, grew up in this house. The Bannings had a caretaker that lived on the estate name Jim.
- Mapleton Cemetery
- The Mapleton Cemetery was a cemetery located in the city of Mapleton in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. In 1970, an Egyptian high priest of Karnak named Mehemet Bey smuggled the mummy of Kharis into the United States and took up residence as the caretaker of the Mapleton Cemetery. He used this as his base of operations in order to enact a curse against the families who lived nearby that were responsible for desecrating the tomb of the princess Ananka. From a back room in the caretaker's cottage, Mehemet Bey would use the fluid distilled from brewing Tana leaves to revive Kharis and send him out to kill members of the Banning family. During this affair, Mehemet developed an interest in Isobel Evans - the fiancé of John Banning and had Kharis abduct her for his own selfish ends and bring her back to the cemetery. A posse of locals confronted Mehemet Bey about the recent string of murders that Kharis had committed. Mehemet was shot and killed by the town sheriff and Isobel was rescued.
