Description[]

The Mandarin's complex from Captain America: Civil War Prelude #2 (Feb. 2016).
Aldrich Killian used his wealth and resources to purchase a mansion compound in Miami, Florida. This was the base of operations for his scientific think tank, Advanced Idea Mechanics. From here, Aldrich crafted his scheme to promote a series of terrorist attacks against American interests in the name of the criminal cartel known as the Ten Rings. He hired a drug addicted British stage actor named Trevor Slattery to pose as the head of the Ten Rings, the Mandarin. They filmed fake footage to make it appear as if the Mandarin were carrying out various attacks, though in truth, it was Killian who had masterminded the actual attacks.
Tony Stark tracked the Mandarin to the compound and found Slattery in bed with two groupies. He soon determined that Trevor was just a puppet and that it was Aldrich Killian who was pulling the strings. Killian captured Tony and forced him to appreciate Aldrich's sense of "desperation" by making him watch video footage of his lover Pepper Potts being tortured at a remote location. Tony was able to summon the components of the Iron Man armor model 42 and break free. He incapacitated and killed sever of the A.I.M. soldiers, though one soldier in particular decided to quit citing "These guys are too weird".
